pursuing individual interests (within particular topics such as family,
oral or maritime history)
The certificate is a two year programme which runs at Canterbury, Tonbridge

Twentieth Century History MA to commence in 2004
Of special interest to those based in London and interested in Local History
may be our MA in Metropolis and Empire. The course discusses the relationship
between the Metropolis (particularly London) and the Empire (particularly
the British Empire) in the colonial and post-colonial periods (1700-2000).
It is an interdisciplinary programme drawing on approaches from geography,
history, and literature. We look at the economy, politics, society, art and
architecture, and literature of the imperial power and of the territories
under its control. The entry requirement is a first degree with first or upper-second
class honours in the broad fields of Humanities or Geography. We actively
encourage applications from suitably qualified applicants who have developed
an interest in any aspect of imperial and/or metropolitan history, cultural
or historical geography, cultural history, or colonial or postcolonial literature.
